Graduate Admissions
The department offers the following graduate degree programs:
- Master of Science in Chemical Engineering (MS-CHE)
- PhD in Engineering with a concentration in Chemical Engineering (PHD-ENG)
Admission to our graduate program is based upon academic performance, professional background, career objectives, letters of recommendation, and test scores.
Admissions Requirements:
Grade Point Average (GPA): An undergraduate baccalaureate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) over the last two undergraduate years in science, math, and engineering courses.
GRE General Exam Scores: Official GRE scores sent sent directly from the testing center to UNM are required. While there is no minimum GRE, competitive applicants earn a Quantative score of approximately 160.
Language Skills for International Students: International students must achieve a minimum score on the TOEFL of 550 on the paper exam, 213 on the computer exam, or 79-80 on the internet-based test; a score of 6.5 on the IELTS; or a minimum score of C on the CPE or CAE test. An official score report is required, sent directly from the testing center to UNM.

FOR ALL DEGREES, we require:
- Three letters of recommendation submitted using our online application system.
- Letter of intent that summarizes your qualifications, professional goals, and indicates the area of chemical engineering which you want to pursue. You may refer to the guidelines for writing this letter.
- A resume or CV
- Official GRE scores
