Biography

Dr. Nathan Jackson joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2017 after working at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork, Ireland as a Senior Staff Researcher for 8 years. He has an extensive background in developing various Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS). His research focuses on developing microfabricated Smart Materials and applying them to MEMS applications. He has a particular interest in piezoelectric MEMS devices and biomedical applications. He is a Senior Member in IEEE and active scientific member in both MEMS and energy harvesting community. He is a member of the Nanoscience and Microsystem Engineering Department and the Center for High Technology Materials at UNM.

Research Focus: His research focuses on developing MEMS devices for numerous applications including vibration energy harvesters, atomizers (aerosol generators), ultrasound transducers, acoustic resonators for sensing and biosensing applications, flexible/stretchable electronics, development of novel flexible piezoelectric materials, and advanced microfabrication techniques.
