Assistant Professor William P. Bricker recently received an LDRD ACORN award for his proposal titled "Learning the electron densities of large-scale molecular arrays with neural networks." The ACORN (Accelerated Collaborative Research Nucleus) program aims to increase collaboration between early-career researchers at UNM and Sandia, and the work will be performed in collaboration with Dr. Joshua Rackers at Sandia National Laboratories. An accurate prediction of electronic structure for large-scale molecular systems becomes untenable as the system size increases, and so the collaborative work aims to predict these large-scale electronic densities by using machine learning and artificial intelligence tools to learn how to connect more manageable electronic density fragments.
