Diez Pérez 2022 Outstanding Grad Student
May 24, 2022
Telmo Diez Pérez received the 2022 CBE Outstanding Graduate Award at the final semianr of the spring semester. Diez Pérez was nominated by Professors Nick Carroll and Gabriel López who also co-advise Diez Pérez.
In their nomination they state "Telmo has been extremely productive especially given the constraints of the pandemic on experimental work. Because of his early discoveries, we were able to respond to the nation’s need for new technologies for new sample preparation methodologies for diagnosis of viral infections with a proposal to the National Science Foundation’s call for rapid research projects to address the COVID-19 pandemic. We were successful in this proposal, and Telmo is the point graduate student on the grant." They go on to point out "Telmo is a leader in the lab and community, leading by example and donating his time to serve as research mentor for graduate and undergraduate students in our labs: Ashley Tafoya, Qing Sun, and Jacob Belchak. Telmo lent his time and efforts to the UNM Foundation, where he helped with their fund raising effort focusing on UNM’s high impact research as the state’s only R1 research institution."
And finally "Telmo represents excellence in research, creativity, leadership, maturity, and generosity." Congratulations Telmo!
