Engineering students among winners at Rio Grande Symposium for Advanced Materials
November 1, 2023 - by Kim Delker
Two of the UNM winners, Caleb Dang and Chuzube Edeh, pose with their awards.
Three UNM students, including two students in the School of Engineering, received awards at the Rio Grande Symposium for Advanced Materials (RGSAM) held last month in Albuquerque.
Caleb Dang, a junior in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, received first place for presentation for the poster titled “Engineered Nanoparticles As Carriers for Dual Therapy for Ovarian Cancer.” Biochemistry junior Chuzube Edeh received second place for the poster “Silica nanotopography dictates biological behavior.” They both work in the nanomedicine lab, led by Achraf Noureddine, a research assistant professor in chemical and biological engineering.
In addition, Subhashree Seth, a Ph.D. student in the Optical Science and Engineering program, received third place in the best poster presentation for graduate students for “Fabrication of Photonic Crystal Surface Emitting Lasers (PCSELs).”
The RGSAM is an applied materials-focused conference gathering researchers from UNM, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories, as well as other universities in the region, such as New Mexico State University and Arizona State University.
